About the Everest Base Camp via Gokyo Ri Trek:
From the high summit of Kala Patthar at 18,450ft where you will stand face to face with Sagarmatha or Chomolungma – the Goddess of Mother Earth, to the Journey into the famed and spectacular Gokyo Valley. You'll explore the source of the grand Dudh Koshi River, Gokyo Peak, the sparkling lakes, and the 360 panoramic views from Gokyo Ri of the surrounding 8000 meter peaks- many say this view is even more spectacular than the view from Kala Patthar.
This challenging high altitude helps you soak in the incredible views and experience a different gem in the Everest region- the Gokyo Valley. This trip includes all of the same great highlights such as the bustling Kathmandu and Namche Bazaar, Kala Pattar and Dingboche, but notches it up with the walk-up ascent of Gokyo Ri, which offers face-to-face views of Cho Oyu and other stunning views of the nearby peaks.
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1334m.) and transfer to the hotel. Welcome Dinner
Upon your arrival in Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu a local First Pilgrim representative will be there for your warm welcome. He will help you to transfer to your hotel. Evening time will be for welcome dinner with First Pilgrim Team in one of the popular Nepali restaurants at Thamel.
Day 2: Kathmandu City Sightseeing and trekking preparation. (B/D)
Take your breakfast and get ready for a guided full day sightseeing of Kathmandu City. The sightseeing program is focused on introducing some highlights of UNESCO World Heritage sites of Kathmandu such as Kathmandu Durbar square, Swoyambhunath ,also known as “Monkey Temple”, Pashupatinath –temple of Lord Shiva and Bouddhanath; a Buddhist place. After sightseeing, the evening will be for trek briefing and preparation of things per need.
Day 3: Scenic flight to Lukla (2834m) (45 minutes) and trek to Phakding (2,652m.) 4-5 hours trekking/ 8km approx. (B/L/D)
Today is starting day of our Everest Base Camp Trek. After breakfast, we take an early flight to Lukla, from where our trek begins. The scenic flight to Lukla is about 40 minutes. In Lukla, we meet our remaining crews and will have a short safety talk. After then we gear up for a short trek to reach today’s destination Phakding following Dudh Koshi the ‘River of Milk’. A gentle walk to Phakding takes about 3 hours.
Day 4: Trek to Namche Bazar (3,440m) 5-6 hours trekking/ 10km approx. (B/L/D)
Approx 6 ½ hour trek to Namche Bazar. The route follows the Dudh Koshi River through many suspension bridges. A learning day to walk at high altitude apparently takes us to Namche Bazar- the trading centre of Khumbu Region. Namche will be the last point to check equipment and hire additional gears for high altitude.
Day 5: Acclimatization Day: In Namche Bazar (B/L/D)
This day is for acclimatization in Namche Bazar. We can visit Tourist Center and learn about Sherpa culture and number of plants and animals that can be found in Everest Region. We can spend this day in Namche Bazar either hiking to Thame or relaxing and exploring Namche Bazar. (Stay Overnight)
Day 6: Trek to Tengboche (3870m) 5-6 hours trekking/ 10km approx. (B/L/D)
Setting Tengboche the destination, we start our trek on trial with few ups and downs which include the magnificent views of Himalayan ranges including Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt Nuptse, close up of Thamserku and Mt. Amadablam. After 6 hours long hike, we finally reach Tengboche-a holy place and the place of biggest Buddhist Monastery of the Khumbu region. Tengboche is one of the best panoramic viewpoints of Everest Region. Our overnight will be in a lodge of Tengboche.
Day 7: Trek to Dingboche (4360m) 5-6 hours trekking/ 8km approx. (B/L/D)
Witnessing the wonderful view of Tengboche in the early morning with its additional offer scenery views around the village, today we set towards Dingboche. 6 hours walk passing Pangboche village a place of one of the oldest Monastery in Khumbu Region takes us to Dingboche. Dingboche is another view point for stunning mountains.
Day 8: Acclimatization Day: In Dingboche. (B/L/D)

Day 9: Trek to Lobuche (4940m.) 5-6 hours trekking/ 7km approx. (B/L/D)
The trek to Lobuche is about five hours, bringing us close to our ultimate goal. We will view the Khumbu icefall on the way to Lobuche. We will be passing frozen rivers where stone houses sit in an icy wilderness of stunning beauty.
Day 10: Lobuche to Gorakshep (5170m.)- Everest Base Camp (5364m.) and trek back to Gorakshep (7-8 hours trekking. /15km approx. (B/L/D)
Day to get to Everest Base Camp. Today day we will have a quiet long walk (8-9 hours). From Lobuche, we start early and get to Gorakshep for an early lunch. Then we head up to Everest basecamp. During the main climbing season, you will see the encampments of expeditions from all over the world whose common aim is to make successful ascents of the world’s highest mountain. After spending some time at basecamp we go back down to our lodge at Gorakshep. From where we can have astonishing views of the Himalaya.
Day 11: Gorakshep to Kalapathar (5545m.) and trek to Dzongla (4846m.) 6-7 hours trek/ 15km trekking (B/L/D)
Today, there is an opportunity to make the steady climb to the lofty summit of Kalapathar (5550m). Most people who are fit and have acclimatized without problems (generally at least half the group) make this ascent. The views from Kalapathar are breathtaking - far better than Basecamp itself. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and lot of other peaks are visible. After descending from the peak, you continue your descent to Dzongla.
Day 12: Dzongla to Thangna (4748m.) Via Chola Pass (5365m.) 9-10 hours trekking/ 15km approx. (B/L/D)
You will be walking on glaciers and boulders through Chola Pass. You will not get any water resource on this pass so recommended to carry min 2 ltr of water. We will start day early because it is going to be long day. Decend from Chola Pass is quite difficult and tricky. You need to stick to the route and follow your guide on this route. Thangna is situated at the foot of Chola Pass.
Day 13: Thangna to Gokyo (4798m.) Hike to Gokyo Ri (5356m.) and back to Gokyo – Stay in Gokyo (7-8 hours trekking/ 7 km approx.) (B/L/D)
After a rest in Thangna, we will start our trek early in the morning for Gokyo. In 3 to 4 hours we will reach Gokyo. You will be amazed with the beauty and view of Gokyo. Have lunch and rest till afternoon in tea house. We will start the hike for Gokyo Ri in afternoon. It will take approximately 2 hours to climb peak. From top you will see the largest glacier of Himalaya , Ngozumpa. This is the best place to get a view of Gokyo Lake and Mount Everest. Decend to Gokyo and spend time by the Lake.
Day 14: Gokyo to Macchermo (4450m.) 6-7 hours trekking/10km approx. (B/L/D)
This will be the easy walk as there will be no high assents. You will experience scenic view of high mountains and small lakes on the path.
Day 15: Macchermo to Phortse Thanga (3657m.) Via Dole 5-6 hours trekking/ 9 km approx (B/L/D)
If you like rhododendrons then you will definitely enjoy this walk. You will get dense rhododendron forests. You will see world’s Sixth highest mountain Cho Oyu on the path.
Day 16: Phortse Thanga to Namche Bazar (3,440m) 5-6 hours trekking/ 10km approx. (B/L/D)
It will be decent walk of 4 to 5 hours and assent for one hour. You will pass through Khumjung village with 45 to 50 Sherpa houses. You will be able to see Tengboche monastery on the path. You will reach Namche Bazar in afternoon, where you can enjoy street shopping at main bazar.
Day 17: Namche Bazar to Phakding (2,652m.) 4-5 hours trekking/ 8km approx. (B/L/D)
Today, we will start later than usual. You can just chill out and, if you didn’t have time yesterday for buying souvenirs, you can buy them now. The path descends steeply down to the Dudh Kosi river which we cross via a high bridge. Through Jorsale and Monjo , where the national park entrance gate is, we walk to Phakding. About 5 hour’s walk.
Day 18: Phakding to Lukla (2834m) 4-5 hours trekking/ 8km approx. (B/L/D)
Final walking day of our trekking, today we trek down to Lukla. It only takes 3-4 hours to reach Lukla. We will have the farewell dinner with our Sherpas and Guides in Lukla.
Day 19: Scenic Flight back to Kathmandu (45 minutes flight). (B/D) Farewell Dinner (B/D)
Today, we fly back Kathmandu from Lukla. After arriving Kathmandu you can have rest in your hotel. If you are interested in buying gifts for your friends and family back home you can visit shops nearby hotel and buy some typical Nepali goods.
Day 20: Departure
Having a fantastic time in Nepal with First Pilgrim team comes to an end today. Local First Pilgrim representative will accompany you to the airport to catch your returning flight.
